In this video you can see that Travis Fogler, CFO and Dairy Operations Manager at Stonyvale Farm, touched on a pretty important subject earlier this summer. Technically, things at Stonyvale Farm are great, with the production of power and heat humming along nicely. But one “soft benefit” of the farm’s new anaerobic digestion system is just as important, although harder to put into words.
Many farms in this country are family-owned, as is Stonyvale Farm. The investment that Stonyvale has made will help stabilize the financial prospects of the farm, and provide a nice hedge against the vagaries of the milk market, where prices can fluctuate wildly. That makes it possible for more family members to stay right here in Maine, and continue the traditions that have been in place in Exeter for generations. You can’t put a dollar figure on that, and that’s why this benefit — although impossible to quantify — is so important. Click on the video above to hear what Travis had to say about this in June.
